actually in spanish languages, they drop the and in numbers also… so it’s not just we americans.

example: Twenty-one, gramtically correct in spanish is “twenty AND one” but when you say it, you usually drop the and.. so it goes from “Viente y uno” to just “viente-uno”

but i’m sure nobody will read this, since it’s from last july.

I tried to dig around and see if there is an official spelling of 101. I can find it listed as both one hundred and one and as one hundred one. The jury is still out until I can find a better search string.

Well, as we supposedly invented the language I would say it’s someone else doing the switching….wouldn’t you!

But back to numbers. Isn’t anyone in the USA going to agree that it’s one hundred AND one etc.?

What about the British grammatical irritants such as “coloUr”, “honoUr” and switching the places of “r” and “e” in words like “centre” and “theatre”. Ghastly!

I strongly disagree with ‘one thousand’.

One hundred and one, one hundred and two………
I hate that American habit of dropping the ‘and’. I’m betting most of your kindergarten teachers hate it too.

It you were to write out ever number with letters, you wouldn’t use the letter A in the spelling of a number until you get to the number one thousAnd.
