How Things Work

Bonus Post: Please Register or Login to view.

Computer Shopper magzine did a spread this month on how things work. They are a great lay-person’s look at how different parts of computers, and related technology actually function. This is a great read for beginners and experts alike.

*WARNING*
Computer Shopper has not yet made this article available online, so I scanned the magazine. The result is: 3 500k images that are 1500 x 1000 px in size. It may be a slow load, but they are readable.

It may not be hugely different from the rest of the UMPCs out there, but Sony always wins in sex appeal!

    Txtual Healing

What happens when you roll up to a large building with projector, and internet address, and an open SMS address?

    Art.

The people at txtualhealing.com came up with an art project for projecting speech bubbles at random windows, and allowing passers-by to fill in the bubbles.

    Eye-fi

    Brilliant!
SD card + 802.11G = Eye-fi in one tiny formfactor.

According to Rob Scoble there is some hope that the device may be real, and even available by the end of the year, although the Eye-fi website does not fill me with hope.

    GooLink WiFi

As expected, Google and Earthlink have kissed and made up, and are teaming up to provide WiFi for San Francisco. If you are lucky enough to be a resident, but the housing prices mean you don’t have enough spare cash; not to worry. The 300kbps service will be free, and those of you living in the next tax bracket up can pay $20 per month for 1Mbps
