Alternative to

Not all of us are made of money. Some of us can’t afford Photoshop CS4 or AutoDesk – even though we may need to use them. Some resort to piracy. I have an alternative (to).

Alternativeto.net provide a l fair amount of open source options to those pricey programs. Additionally, it provides a user feedback and ranking system, so you get a better idea of the options before you download and install.

Auditorium

Elegant, beautiful, surreal, breath-taking. Definitely worth a visit, but make sure you have some time to spare.

The Ebb and Flow of Movies

Graphically beautiful. Fully interactive. The NYTimes has done it again. The graph above shows box office receipts for movies from 1986 to present. It show the total receipts, and those receipts over time.

As a lay person, the information is moderately interesting, but the layout, and access is really cool!

New Year Google – the secrects behind the image

Google put silently two hidden messages in its 2008 logo. Google is celebrating 25 years of TCP/IP and the New Year.

The first is the year 2008 hidden in the cabling

The second is the words SYN SYN ACK ACK hidden in the confetti at the bottom. The syn syn ack ack is referred as a “Three Way Handshake.”
